Access to clean water and safe sanitation is more than a basic need, it is the foundation of health, dignity, and opportunity. Through the Boresha Afya Mtaani program, Beacon of Hope, in partnership with Blood:Water, is transforming lives across Kajiado County by placing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) at the center of community development.
Boresha Afya Mtaani is a holistic initiative that also integrates HIV prevention, nutrition support, and youth empowerment. Yet, at its core lies a simple but powerful truth: when communities have access to clean water and safe sanitation, everything changes.
In schools across Kajiado, this transformation is already visible. At Upper Matasya Primary School, a new sanitation block with multiple toilets, changing rooms, and handwashing facilities has restored dignity and created a safe environment for learners especially girls. At Oloosirikon Primary School, the installation of a solar-powered water system, complete with a pump, elevated tower, and 20,000-litre storage tank, now provides reliable access to clean water for both the school and the surrounding community. Meanwhile, Kimuka Primary School has benefited from renovations and the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, ensuring a consistent water supply for daily use. At Kibiko Primary School, hygiene promotion has been strengthened through the distribution of dignity packs and mentorship sessions for learners.
The impact however goes beyond infrastructure. Through hygiene education, mentorship, and dignity pack distribution in schools, learners are gaining the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health. These efforts are reducing preventable illnesses, improving school attendance, and creating environments where children can thrive.
Boresha Afya Mtaani is strengthening schools, restoring dignity, and empowering communities to take ownership of their future.
Because when WASH is strengthened, dignity rises and hope follows.
