Rebah Nyaroso from Dagoretti, Kenya, is an exceptional and creative grandmother whose life has been transformed through the Mjali Grandmothers Project, a community empowerment initiative by Focus Africa in partnership with Beacon of Hope.
With a small business boost, Rebah now designs and sells handmade scarves, bags, baskets, necklaces, and decorative flowers. Her products are not only a source of income but also a celebration of her skill, artistry, and cultural heritage.
After attending a financial literacy and business training workshop, she learned how to plan her business, manage resources, and generate sustainable profits. Today, her enterprise is stable, allowing her to restore her dignity, support her grandchildren, and contribute to her community.
The Mjali Grandmothers Project empowers grandmothers who are primary caregivers to their grandchildren by providing:
- Financial support to grow small businesses
- Health education and nutrition guidance
- Psychological and emotional support for wellbeing
- Educational assistance for grandchildren, including school fees and learning materials
