The Msomeshe Mtoto Project is a powerful partnership between the Marejan Foundation and Beacon of Hope, working together to strengthen early childhood education across informal settlements in Nairobi and Kajiado Counties, including Mukuru, Kangemi, and Ongata Rongai.

At the heart of this collaboration is a shared vision: to ensure that every child learns in a safe, healthy, and dignified environment where access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) is not a privilege, but a standard.

The project currently supports 33 ECDE centres, directly benefiting 3,012 children, including 1,555 girls and 1,457 boys. These numbers reflect a growing impact that goes beyond access to education—it reflects improved well-being, stronger learning environments, and renewed community confidence in ECDE centres.

In many ECDE centres across Mukuru, Kangemi, and Ongata Rongai, children have long faced challenges linked to limited access to clean water and sanitation. Through this partnership, schools are being transformed with improved sanitation facilities, handwashing stations, and access to clean water.

These interventions have significantly improved hygiene practices in schools. Learners now practice regular handwashing, classrooms are cleaner, and the risk of hygiene-related illness has reduced, leading to better attendance and improved concentration in class.

A key outcome of the WASH improvements has been the restoration of dignity, especially for young girls. Safe and improved sanitation facilities have created a more comfortable learning environment, supporting consistent attendance and active participation in school activities.

Families across Mukuru, Kangemi, and Ongata Rongai are increasingly trusting ECDE centres as safe spaces where children are protected, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Beyond WASH, the partnership also strengthens classroom learning by providing essential educational materials such as Cheza boxes, learning charts, and teaching aids. These resources have made learning more interactive and engaging, supporting early cognitive development and classroom participation.

Teachers are also better equipped to deliver creative and child-centred lessons that improve foundational learning outcomes.

The partnership between Marejan Foundation and Beacon of Hope also extends to supporting classroom construction and improvement in selected ECDE centres. These developments have helped reduce overcrowding, improve safety, and create more structured learning environments for young children.

Combined with WASH improvements and learning materials, these infrastructure upgrades are transforming ECDE centres into more holistic spaces for early childhood development.

Teachers have been trained to integrate hygiene education into daily routines, ensuring that WASH practices become part of the school culture. As a result, children are developing lifelong habits of cleanliness and responsibility, while schools report reduced illness-related absenteeism and improved participation.

Across Mukuru, Kangemi, and Ongata Rongai, the impact of this partnership is visible in cleaner schools, healthier children, and more engaged classrooms. Communities are increasingly confident in ECDE centres as safe and supportive environments for early learning.

The Marejan Foundation–Beacon of Hope partnership continues to demonstrate that when organizations come together with a shared purpose, meaningful transformation is possible. By integrating WASH, learning materials, and infrastructure development, the Msomeshe Mtoto Project is not only improving current learning conditions but also building a stronger foundation for future generations.

In Mukuru, Kangemi, and Ongata Rongai, this partnership is shaping more than schools—it is shaping brighter, healthier futures for every child.

Access to clean water and safe sanitation is more than a basic need, it is the foundation of health, dignity, and opportunity. Through the Boresha Afya Mtaani program, Beacon of Hope, in partnership with Blood:Water, is transforming lives across Kajiado County by placing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) at the center of community development.

Boresha Afya Mtaani is a holistic initiative that also integrates HIV prevention, nutrition support, and youth empowerment. Yet, at its core lies a simple but powerful truth: when communities have access to clean water and safe sanitation, everything changes.

In schools across Kajiado, this transformation is already visible. At Upper Matasya Primary School, a new sanitation block with multiple toilets, changing rooms, and handwashing facilities has restored dignity and created a safe environment for learners especially girls. At Oloosirikon Primary School, the installation of a solar-powered water system, complete with a pump, elevated tower, and 20,000-litre storage tank, now provides reliable access to clean water for both the school and the surrounding community. Meanwhile, Kimuka Primary School has benefited from renovations and the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, ensuring a consistent water supply for daily use. At Kibiko Primary School, hygiene promotion has been strengthened through the distribution of dignity packs and mentorship sessions for learners.

The impact however goes beyond infrastructure. Through hygiene education, mentorship, and dignity pack distribution in schools, learners are gaining the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health. These efforts are reducing preventable illnesses, improving school attendance, and creating environments where children can thrive.

Boresha Afya Mtaani is strengthening schools, restoring dignity, and empowering communities to take ownership of their future.

Because when WASH is strengthened, dignity rises and hope follows.

At Beacon of Hope Hospital, we hosted a life-changing outreach, “Wheels of Hope and Dignity,” bringing mobility, support, and renewed hope to hundreds of families. Through the collaborative efforts of Hope Mobility, Hope Haven, Empower Ability Foundation, and Beacon of Hope Hospital, families received mobility devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, and standing frames, alongside essential items including food baskets, blankets, mattresses, dignity packs, and Bibles.

The day began with a warm welcome at BOH, followed by health checks, registration, and personalized wheelchair fittings. Each device was customized and assembled on-site, allowing beneficiaries to leave fully equipped and supported on the very same day.

Beyond physical support, the initiative provided psychosocial support and counseling, addressing emotional and mental well-being. Many recipients received a mobility device for the first time, marking a renewed sense of independence, confidence, and dignity.

The program also included engagement with members of the clergy, empowering them to create inclusive and welcoming spaces within their congregations and offer spiritual healing to persons living with disabilities. This reinforced BOH’s commitment to holistic care—supporting both body and spirit.

The outreach closed with a profound sense of joy and fulfillment, demonstrating the power of faith, compassion, and collaboration. Together, these organizations are working to ensure that persons living with disabilities in our community can experience life with dignity, inclusion, and renewed hope.

Community members in Ngoliba choose clothes of their choice during a donation event.

In Magogoni–Ngoliba, Kiambu County, a quiet but powerful transformation unfolded. What started as a simple outreach,  a chance to share clothing, shoes, and dignity kits became a day filled with gratitude and renewed confidence for many families and schoolgirls.

Parents watched as their children tried on new clothes that actually fit,  garments that replaced torn or worn-out ones and brought back smiles that had long been hidden. For many schoolgirls, the dignity kits were more than personal items; they were tools of empowerment. They meant being able to attend school comfortably and confidently, free from worry or shame.

“This might look small, but to us, it means so much,” one mother shared softly, holding back tears. “It reminds us that someone cares, that we matter.”

From a clean dress to a bar of soap, every gift carried a message of care, belonging, and hope. Volunteers and staff from Beacon of Hope didn’t just distribute items; they shared moments of connection, listening and affirming the worth of every person they met.

As the day came to an end, the once-quiet compound was alive with renewed energy. Children played freely, mothers embraced, and a sense of dignity filled the air.

This outreach is part of Beacon of Hope’s ongoing mission to empower lives and restore hope, one community at a time. Through compassionate action and partnership, Beacon continues to reach out to underserved families, offering not only material support but also a reminder that each life holds value and potential.
