The HIV/AIDS pandemic has spared no one. Children have lost their parents and means of livelihood to this deadly virus. Thus the youth in the area in conjunction with Beacon of Hope have started projects, which focus on the youth. AIDS Awareness The youth see it as a priority to make AIDS known to everyone, hopefully preventing the transmission to other youth, who might not know the facts about AIDS. This is done through peer education in the schools, churches and in community groups and clubs. Apprenticeship Children and youth have different strengths and weaknesses. Some maybe academically challenged, hence such children are then offered an opportunity to be trained in different vocational skills such as mechanical engineering, carpentry, beauty and hairdressing. Beacon of Hope has identified some training outlets, which are willing to begin a partnership.
Youth Group The youth in Kware slums desire to have a meeting place, where they can express and share ideas in a safe environment. Beacon of Hope offered this space and provided facilitators to help the group focus on desired topics and projects. The youth group meets once a week with a social worker and a pastor to discuss issues that are important to them. They are also taught various life skills, which will benefit them in the future.
